The Vegetable Nannies
The Troll's Kitchen
Plunge Boom was established by Ben Faulks in 2006 as a vehicle to develop interactive and mobile performances.
From the off, a key element to all Plunge Boom shows has been audience interaction. The stories are devised for family audiences, with material that springs from a twisted logic that engages with children and adults alike.
Plunge Boom is firmly focused on giving audiences intimate, engaging, hands-on experiences. Our shows are based on re-imagining the natural world, and feature vegetable babies, weird and wonderful microscopic animals, and disgusting food for trolls.
Since Plunge Boom began touring in 2007, we've travelled through the UK, Europe and Canada.

Johnothan Pram was a character I created for a trilogy of self-devised solo performances between 2003 and 2006.
These black comedies followed Johnothan as he struggled through various warped manifestations of the modern world gone wrong.
The shows went on to tour throughout the UK and Europe, and were made with support from the greenroom and The Royal Exchange Theatre, as well as Arts Council England.

The Endurance was a theatrical tale of survival on which I collaborated with actor and director Al Seed.
Al and I toured throughout the UK in 2007, and the the show was redirected and extended for the Royal Exchange Theatre in 2008.
The show was a co-commission between The Arches, Leeds Met Studio Theatre and the Royal Exchange Studio Theatre.

Come Forth People of the City Under the Cover of Night was site-specific promenade performance for the 2007 Manchester International Festival and Pandamonium. I teamed up with Jonathan McGrath of Ikebana Performance on this theatrical behemoth in which we took over the Manchester Town Hall for a late night event.
Working with a cast of 35, the show consisted of processional performances throughout the corridors of the Town Hall, a sit-down supper, ballroom dancing, and the creation of new legislation for the people of Manchester.

The Trampoline Orchestra explored the idea of ‘musical trampolining’ using trampolines rigged with sensors which triggered musical notes, samples and effects with every bounce.
The result was a recital given by a four-person orchestra, bouncing in time with each other to deliver songs and stories from their Trampoline Repertoire.
The show started as a two-week R&D workshop at the Nuffield Theatre Lancaster in 2007, before appearing at the Arches Theatre Festival in 2008.
A human-shaped figure, made entirely of moss makes a slow journey through a public space. It's evocative of a Green Man / Sasquatch combination. Bits of foliage come lose as it travels. It’s movements are measured & gradual, evoking a sense of mass and age. The figure is silent and drawn to physical contact with members of the public but offers no explanation to its appearance. At times it may become attached to street furniture & leaves watery foot-steps in its wake. It’s clearly alive but ancient; out of place & time. Then, without ceremony or introduction, another one appears. They gravitate toward each other and hold hands becoming some sort of couple. Soon, many more arrive.
The show explores our current relationship to the natural world. It delivers a strong non-verbal, multisensory experience combining the visual impact with tactility & smell. The suits are made from real moss.
